The Origin Of Valentines Day
Valentines Day has become a commercialized holiday where people run wild spending money on flowers, chocolates, and cards for their loved ones. This day of love had originally been loosely observed in Ancient Rome. It started off as a celebration of Saint Valentine, a martyr of the Catholic Church, and had shifted with the culture to a day of loving and giving.

A little bit about Saint Valentine's Story:
Although his feast day is widely celebrated, little is known about Saint Valentine himself. It is agreed that Valentine was martyred and buried in Rome, but everything else remains uncertain. One account describes him as a priest in Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. At the time, Christianity was heavily persecuted, and in an effort to create stronger soldiers, young people were forbidden to marry. Despite this, Valentine aided the persecuted and continued to marry young couples—both crimes punishable by execution.
Valentine’s martyrdom, the ultimate sacrifice of his life, embodies the true essence of love. For those we truly love, we must be willing to give our all. This is why I believe we still celebrate Valentine’s Day. While we should appreciate our loved ones every day, Valentine’s Day serves as a yearly reminder to express what our love truly means. It encourages us to step away from the chaos of life and focus on those who matter most—family, friends, and partners. After all, who doesn’t love love?

Quick Prayer:
Dear Saint and glorious martyr,
Teach us to love unselfishly and
to find great joy in giving.
Enable all true lovers to bring
out the best in each other.
Let them love each other in God
and in God in each other.
